Journal 2 02/08/2021

These past couple weeks have been going a lot better than my weeks in the past. I am slowing getting into the rhythm of student teaching, and I am finding a balance between teaching and my outside life. The elementary school that I am is still in person, and I am grateful for the experience I have been able to have while here in Texas.

The past two weeks I have been finishing up the lessons that I have been teaching for a fundraiser that we are doing. I have been teaching 3rdand 5thgrade. Last week I started a new unit with 1st-5thgrade, and I am now teaching all of the grades solely. It has been great experience to be able to teach so much every day. I feel like I am improving so much in a lot of aspect that I was nervous about when I was going into student teaching. And now I feel more and more confident in teaching.

Somethings that I want to really focus on is classroom management, just when I think I am doing really well in classroom management I feel like I lose the class and it is really difficult to bring them back in. I think because I came to the school in the middle of the year, it was hard to build those relationships with the students and start with the routine because I was in a way disrupting their routine. So it has been interesting to see how the students are responding to me taking over the classroom and teaching full time. Some days are better than others, but overall I am growing a lot from the experience.

My goal for the next coming weeks is to be more prepared for clean and have a plan of how I am going to do it. I think a lot of times I feel like it is going to go the same way when in reality, it doesn't. My other goal is to grow from the classroom management moments that I am having, and find out ways I can improve more.

Throughout this experience I have noticed the importance of routine, and how much students really benefit from that. I think learning more about classroom management, I have noticed how important routines are. I want to set up a classroom culture from the start, to make sure my students know the expectations of the classroom, and what is expected of them when they come to art. I am excited to have my own classroom, and start my own classroom culture.

Below I created this weaving for myself, I love weaving, it is one of my favorite things to do as a hobby. I decided to create this piece just a moment for myself because I think it is so important to get caught up in the day to day aspect of teaching. It is easy to get carried away and not take time for myself and create art. I plan on putting it above my coffee station in my house to remind me why I decided to be come an educator and remind of my passions I have for this profession.
