Standard 2

Quality Standard 2

Teachers establish a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment for a diverse population of students.

Overall Reflection

With this standard I believe that I am accomplished. I strive to create a space that is safe and place where all students can grow and learn as a artist, creators, directors, an architect. I think it is extremely important to create a brave space for students to come a learn. As a teacher, it is my goal to create this type of healthy and safe learning environment for my students to be successful. This will be created by setting clear expectations and building relationships with my students to understand what my students need to be able to learn and grow. Students need to have an environments that is created where it is respectful and understanding for them to learn. Professionally, I will make sure this is part of my first week with each of my students, we will have a reflections of what they want art class to consist of, and what it looks like to have a respectful and brave space in the classroom.

Element A: Teachers foster a predictable learning environment characterized by acceptable student behavior and ecient use of time in which each student has a positive, nurturing relationship with caring adults and peers.

I created this graphic to show my expectation for my classroom. I would give it to my students during the first week of school, so they can understand what the expectation of the classroom and as a student. I believe setting these expectations is important because then students will have routine and know what is expected of them to be successful.

Element B: Teachers demonstrate an awareness of, a commitment to, and a respect for multiple aspects of diversity, while working toward common goals as a community of learners.

Creating an environment of inclusion and respect is important when thinking in terms of a art classroom. I strive for my students to feel respect from me and their classmates. This lesson that I created we talk about identity and culture, I wanted to show my students the importance of advocating for your culture, and that identity doesn't just mean race and ethnicity. I wanted my students to incorporate two to three things about who they are and create a self portrait that will draw the viewer into what their idenity is.

Element C: Teachers engage students as individuals, including those with diverse needs and interests, across a range of ability levels by adapting their teaching for the benefit of all students.

Each Lesson that I create, I focus on my students and their needs for the lesson. I think about my some of my students who have IEP and 504 and how I can create this lesson that will incorporate all of their successful skills and abilities. I try to think about each of my students interests and that real helps me create my lesson so my students will be successful. Each lesson plan that I create I have a section that is dedicate to differentiation. It proves that I am thinking about ways for my students who might need more attention and students that I need to challenge in their work.

Element D: Teachers work collaboratively with the families and/or significant adults for the benefit of students.

I was fortunate enough to be part of the creation of the bulletin board competition for Black History Month at Cambridge Elementary school. I helped the specials team to create a board that showed Black and African American artist, athletes, and musicians. It was awesome to create something that students and families can come visit to see all the talented people that are showcased. Another thing that I was part of, was a lesson that I created for Art to Remember. This program is where student create an art work, and then that work can be uploaded and printed on things like mugs, aprons, bags, and more. It is something that gets our students art work out to the community, family and friends.
